Jorgen Ringstrand, (1967) born and raised in Malmö in the south of Sweden, first started photography at the age of 12 when he built his first camera obscura and a small darkroom. Inspired by photojournalism and the works of Koudelka, Sebastian Salgado and Magnum photographers, he walked the streets of Copenhagen and Berlin and documented what he saw, leading to his first solo exhibition at the age of 16. He also started a biannual art magazine focusing on photography that he published for four years before he decided to stop to study psychology at the University of Lund, Sweden. He spent three years there before leaving to focus on photography and drawing.

During the trips to Berlin, Jorgen also got familiarized with the work of Mayakovsky and Rodtjenko and began to study art and typography under the leading typography master, Carl Fredrik Hultenheim as well as book printing at the legendary Cheltenham Press, UK.

His raw and documentary photographic style with inspirations from street photography and photojournalism brings out a direct and strong emotional expression to his work, photographing both men’s and women’s fashion.
